Final Evaltuon

Final Evaluation
Having looked Lacan, Freud and Mulvey theory, I chose to looked at the Lacan theory in more depth and look at how people have a lack and fill this lack with an obsession. I want to look at obsession that people have with their phones as I feel that this big, with a lot of people using there phone and being on it all the time.

Overall I'm happy with how my final video came out and how it looked. I feel that it gets the idea of obsession and someone being obsessed with their phone. I like the different shots that I got and the getting the difference between the two locations. One being very busy and one being quiet and open, showing that no matter where there are they are always going to have this obsession with the phone.

At the start I didn't edit to the music and it was feeling very disjoined, so I changed my clips around to be able to edit to the music and I feel that this works better. This is because when the key changed you expected the video to change as well as this wasn't the case, it wasn't flowing as well as it should have.

I edited the films and it was over 6 minutes long, when watching it back I found that this was very long and by the end it got a bit boring. To stop the viewer being bored I need cut it down and change things around. I found it a lot better to cutting it down, I feel that this engage the reader a lot more and meant that they weren't getting bored of what was happening.

What would I improve?
Having looked back, I would improve the planning and make sure I knew what I need to film before going to film. For example in my first shoot, I didn't film enough and found it hard to film again with the same person. I found that I have then having to adapt my idea for this to happen, having looked at this I had to go back to my first idea as this fitted and worked out better. It would have saved me a lot of work if i thought about how much I need to shoot before hand and also try and film it all within the first shoot. I had ideas of where I could shoot but I couldn't do this with things falling through, it would have worked better and maybe be a bit different if these worked well.

Also I could improve on the lighting, I could have changed been high key lighting and low key lighting. I could of have done with filming at night to get low lighting, and using the phone as the main source of light. This could have shown the obsession more and how someone can spend all day on their phone. This could also have meant that I had more varied locations and they didn't look the same.

I like how I had different shots and using the close up, I feel that this work well and added something different to the film. I feel that for some clips I used close ups and then for some other I didn't and I feel that it would have worked better if I stuck to using close ups. I didn't film close ups at every place that I went if I did this is might have worked better because then I had the chose of using the close up or not.

Composition

I  found this video, which has used composition to frame there shots. From my video I want to use the centre and to have the person in the middle framed, like they have done here.

Shooting Plan 3

Shooting Plan 3

Having looked at my other footage and editing it together, I don't feel that it worked well with my other footage. I am going to use Ellie again and shoot her is different locations in town.

I want to take different shots, getting long, mid and close up shots. I want to get the composition perfectly in middle and look at getting the same position each time. I will do this by using the grid of the camera, using the same high of the tripod and making sure the camera in the same distance away from Ellie.

I want to use close ups to get different parts of Ellie's face and body to get across this idea of obsession. I want to get extreme close ups to be able to make the viewer unconformable and to show this obsession. I will take long takes, giving more to edit with and to see what will work. I feel like have fast jump cuts would work well and great this idea of obsession across. However if I feel that this doesn't work as well I will look at using longer shots.

I want to take out the 50mm to experiment with different another lens and to see if this adds something different to my work. I want to be able to look to see if this work well and also try something else for my video. I feel that the 50mm lens will help when going close ups. I also feel that I can get a low aperture, fitting in with the idea and isolation.

Places that I want to go: Crossing, centre of town, tunnel, shop and on a bench. I want to go to busier places and contrast to the open field.

I think that using Ellie will work better and it would fit better with my idea. I feel using one person would confuse the viewer as I feel that using another person will confuse the viewer.

For this idea to work well I need to go to more places, and make sure that I have enough footage.

I hope that this footage will be enough to finish my film and will get the idea of obsession and lack across to the viewer. I'm feeling confidence about this shoot and confident that this shoot will go well.

Evaluation for shoot 2

Evaluation for shoot 2

Having looked at my footage and editing it together, I don't like how it works together and how it looks like two people are having a conversation with each other. I feel that it doesn't get across the idea of having this obsession and the obsession/ lack isn't shown and I don't feel like it make sense. I feel that i'm confusing my idea and it will confuse the viewer and they wouldn't get the idea of being obsessed with the phone and lack of human interaction. I need to go back to just having one person and sticking to the one person, I will film again with Ellie. As I feel that having the one person will get this idea across.

Second Edit-

The footage that I did film was a good baseline and I feel that I got a good idea of where I can film when I go back out to film with Ellie. I want to go to similar places, as I feel that it worked well and will work well with my other footage.

I feel that I could improve of the footage that I have, I feel that it could be filmed better and could visual look a lot better. In the tunnel its very grain, I feel that if I could move closer to a light on the wall or entrance of the tunnel this would I can get my ISO low and not to have grain in the within the footage. I feel like the grain takes your attention away from the phone and the idea of being on your phone, and the lack.

I feel that for this clip I need to have a long shot instead of the mid shot, I need to have a long shot and then go to the mid shot. I feel that its to be established before moving into a mid shot. Also I feel that I could use a low aperture, to isolate Ellie and to show how using the phone is isolating her.

For my new shoot I will be filming Ellie again, going to similar locations that I went with Frankie. I feel that this worked well with my other footage, and I get a contrast between busy places and quieter places. I hope to be able to film again at the end of the week, and plan to film at as many locations as possible.
