Has conventions of film noir - Fantasy, nothing is solved, has endless opportunities to escape the city doesn't take them. Falls in love with a girl.

Use of jumps cuts, to cut down the time, was only meant to be 1 hour 30 minutes. Godard didn't want to cut the whole scenes, instead cut the parts of scenes. Creating the jump cut.
